My Imaginary Heart is the tongue-firmly-in-cheek title for the outpouring of creative expression flowing from a small stained glass art studio in Naarm/Melbourne. Owned by multi-media artist with a many stringed bow: community facilitator, librarian, radio broadcaster, and musician, Fiona Caskie. Set out on your own glass journey of colour and light with My Imaginary Heart! See our workshops listed below.
The medium of glass allows My Imaginary Heart to draw parallels between the strength and vulnerability of the material and the nature of human experience. My Imaginary Heart reflects the duality of belonging and exclusion, in a world that demands growth and innovation while decimating difference. My Imaginary Heart takes courage from the changing light and colours of a simple backyard garden to continue storytelling in a society that increasingly seeks to dominate every narrative.
Incorporating imagery in glass based on the artist's long-term folklore project and exploration of often overwhelming sensory experiences, My Imaginary Heart expresses what cannot be put into words by drawing heavily upon folklore and fairytale stories. My Imaginary Heart re-imagines their engagement with and disassociation from their environment through simulacra, character-building, and worlds-within-worlds-within-worlds.

Want to make? Learn the traditional skills of leadlight and/or copper foil and take home a beautiful stained glass piece. Join a workshop with My Imaginary Heart at Melbourne Polytechnic in Naarm/Melbourne, and receive individualised attention within a small group of up to six participants.
What is the copper foil method? Copper foil involves cutting small pieces of glass, wrapping the pieces in copper foil, and soldering together. Copper foil is a meditative and gentle first step into glass art, and a great activity for fostering creativity and self-expression. Select from a one-day session on a Saturday or a Friday Night session through Class Bento. Book with friends, make it a couples night, or an experience just for you. Supported and hosted by Glaas Inc. Read our reviews here.
The 'Making Glass Accessible' program supported by Glaas Inc and led by My Imaginary Heart welcomes our entire community and provides subsidies for those experiencing barriers to access while funding lasts. Come and join our friendly community of glass enthusiasts and learn the traditional craft of leadlight or the delicate copper foil technique with our five-week daytime course or sign up for casual attendance, Wednesdays 10am to 1pm at Melbourne Polytechnic.
